POLLINATOR WEEK 2010
Pollinator Habitat Restoration
for DoD Land Managers
The fourth National Pollinator Week was held June 21-27

June 21-27, 2010 marked the fourth annual National Pollinator Week. On June 21, the USDA People's Garden hosted a kickoff event to celebrate the importance of pollinators to agriculture and public land. DoD presented an exhibit to educate other agencies, organizations, and the public about the importance pollinators play to support the military mission. The exhibit also provided information on what the DoD Natural Resources Conservation Program does to help protect and restore pollinators and their habitats.

Although the number of visitors to the event was not as high as expected, over half of the number of visitors stopped by the DoD booth to learn about current initiatives. Nearly all of the people who inquired were fascinated and surprised that DoD even supported and promoted pollinators. Phases such as, "why is DoD here?" and "DoD is interested in pollinators?" were common expressions used by other agencies. Because of this event, other agencies and organizations were able to gain insight on other work the DoD Natural Resources Conservation Program is involved in and learn about some of the projects DoD supports regarding pollinators.
